Investment on Ming & Qing-style Furniture
According to the analysis of Mr. Tian Jiaqing, the famous contemporary relic collector, it is twenty years ago that the collection of Ming & Qing dynasty furniture began to go hot. From the perspective of investment, the revaluational potential is different between Ming and Qing furniture. The difference can be generally divided into three categories.

There are two kinds of furniture with the most potential of revaluation. One is the Ming-style furniture made under the guidance of literaries in Ming dynasty and early Qing dynasty, mostly made in yellow rosewood. Another is the Qing-style palace furniture which are directly supervised by the emporers, guided by the palace artist and made by the best carpenters in the Forbidden City during the three generations of Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong, mostly made in red sandlewood. In the overseas auction market, the price of such a piece of furniture can easily go up to RMB six to seven million, while it might be worth only several hundreds RMB two decades ago.

From the perspective of investment, although the price today is very high, the above-mentioned two kinds of furniture has the most tremendous room for revaluation with little risk. But the precaution is that it must be well-kept gem. The biggest problem faced by the collectors today is the existence of too much fakement. Those who know little about Ming & Qing-style furniture but are affordable to make investment in this area, had better choose those reputable auction house, so as to guarantee the security of investment.
